Project 2
Project
📄 Description
The purpose of this project was to create a professional blog post to analyze the vital role that social media plays in the success of a movement. This blog post explains how Resource Mobilization Theory informs our understanding of the modern human rights movement, including how tools such as media coverage, online campaigns, networking platforms, and organized support are exercised. I analyzed two major events in Bangladesh: the 2013 Shahbag Movement and the 2018 Road Safety Movement. I explained how hashtags like #WeWantJustice allowed these protests to grow from small street gatherings into global conversations, proving that the internet is now a vital "resource" for seeking justice.
🔍 Justification
In the field of media studies and journalism, where digital media platforms hold a strong control over social movements, understanding the impact of media on activism is crucial. The significance of this project lies in showcasing the media's role in strategically utilizing communication technologies to gather communities, rapid dissemination of information, change public opinion, amplify marginalized voices, and advocate for systemic social change.
📊 Key Outcomes
- Writing this blog was a turning point in my understanding of how technology changes society. This 'Resource Mobilization Theory' helped me better understand why some movements succeed while others fail. I also improved my digital writing skills, especially in narrating a story online using clear ideas, evidence, and visuals. This experience taught me that being a good communicator means knowing how to 'mobilize' people toward a common goal. Now, I feel more confident using digital tools to raise awareness and create positive social impact in a professional setting.
