Introduction
My University Journey: A Time of Growth
My four years at university have passed incredibly quickly. Looking back, I can see how much I’ve grown, not just as a student, but as a person. I started in the Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) department with a lot of curiosity, and I’m leaving with the confidence and skills I need to start my professional career.
The Courses That Shaped Me
I always enjoyed the classes where I could actually create things and express my ideas. Three courses specifically stood out and pushed me to grow:
- Advanced English Writing: This course was the foundation for everything else. It taught me how to sharpen my voice and write in a way that is clear, professional, and persuasive. It’s where I learned that good communication starts with a strong, well-written message.
- Created Private Media: This was a favorite because it allowed me to be creative with storytelling. Working on projects like my documentary on "Khut" taught me how to take a simple concept and turn it into a high-quality visual story.
- Convergence Communication II: This was a major challenge for me. I learned how to handle the entire video production process, including technical editing, all on my own. Completing a full production from start to finish made me realize I can handle difficult, high-pressure tasks.
Collaboration and Practical Skills
Throughout these four years, I spent a lot of time working in teams. Whether we were filming a documentary or designing a PR strategy, I learned how to be a reliable teammate and a leader. I realized that good communication isn’t just about talking; it’s about organizing, listening, and working hard to meet a deadline.
From late-night research sessions to learning new editing software, every project helped me build a "toolkit" of skills. I’ve become someone who can think strategically about a brand but also get behind a camera or a computer to produce the content myself.
Looking Ahead
I’m graduating with a deep understanding of media, writing, and production. I feel ready to take what I’ve learned at ULAB and apply it in the real world. I’m looking forward to starting my professional journey and using my skills to help organizations tell their stories in an honest and impactful way.
Self-Reflection
I chose to study Media Studies and Journalism because I’ve always been fascinated by how communication shapes our world. I decided to major in Public Relations because I wanted to understand how to build trust and tell stories that actually make an impact. For me, PR isn’t just about talking; it’s about finding the best way to connect people with the right message.
At ULAB, I didn't just stay in the classroom, I got to work on real projects that felt like real-life jobs. Whether I was writing professional scripts in Advanced English Writing, filming a documentary for Created Private Media, or managing a full video production for Convergence Communication II, I was always learning by doing. These projects taught me how to stay organized, think creatively, and solve problems when things didn't go as planned.
Group work was another huge part of my growth. Working with different teams taught me that a great project needs everyone’s input. I learned how to share my ideas clearly, listen to others, and lead when the team needed a boost. Facing these challenges made me much more confident and showed me that I’m ready to take on the fast-paced world of professional media.
